And guides all the dead,
To the land of death and fog.

The god of drink and joy
He's small as a dwarf,
Not taller than a boy.

C's a Canopic jar,
That has organs inside,
Liver and heart and kidneys,

D comes from Doeat
The land of the dead,
You get there by boat,
Steered by a dog's head.

She fell from the sky,
The lioness Sachmet,
Who let people die.

Considered a god
They made him a mummy,
To protect him from rot.

The god of the earth
His wife is on top,
He lies in the di
PoetryIn the beginning was the Word... And the Word was God. Thus says the apostle John. Other translations of his Gospel say that 'the Word was divine'. Indeed, words are strangely powerful things. They are magical. Language is magical. No animal has anything resembling human language. Steven Pinker has written three excellent books on the subject. Fascinating stuff, although at times you'll probably find him a bit too technical.

Is it not weird that mere words can move people to do all sorts of things? That they can convey thoughts, ideas, emotions? That you can paint pictures with them? Hypnosis is just a use of words. Mass hypnosis even more s

The New Spartans, Modern InfanticideThe New Spartans – Modern Infanticide

The Journal of Medical Ethics, March 2nd 2012: Two renowned scientists, Dr. Francesca Minerva, a research associate at Oxford University and dr. Alberto Giubilini, a University of Milan bioethicist, present an argument for… well, how to call it? I guess the most accurate term is “murder”. Infanticide, child murder to be precise.

They call it euphemistically “after-birth abortion”, but in the second sentence clarify that what they actually mean is “killing a newborn”. In their article they state that: “Euthanasia   in   infants   has   been   proposed   by philosophers for children with severe abnormalities whose lives can be expected to be not worth living and who are experiencing unbearable suffering.”

This is not new. It has been known to happen in dictatorial and militaristic states. In anc
The Grin of the Cheshire CatThe Grin of the Cheshire Cat

The grin of the Cheshire cat is the last thing Alice (in "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland") sees off this strange animal and she confesses that this grin is the strangest thing she has ever observed. It is strange still, because Lewis Carroll's notes on this passage have faded through the years, leaving us to wonder what it was the Cheshire cat grinned at.

One of the earliest ancestors of the common cat is Dinictis, from the Olicene, forty million years ago. This animal, which looked a bit like a civet, is not only the ancestor of our cat but also of the panther, the tiger and the lion. But there is nothing lau

Tell meTell me…

Tell me you love me,
I need it, to hear,
Tell me you need me,
Oh, tell me my dear.

Tell me, if I hurted you hard,
I am so afraid,
If I ever made you smart,
And I will placate.

Tell me what you want me to be,
What you want me to say,
What I'm failing to see,
Tell me why, when and what —
Please, tell me the way.
Riddle 6I was loved by the sun,
His light made me see.
Believe me did none,
That filled him with glee.
They told me: Begone
And yet it came to be.
The city did burn,
And after that, soon,
The armies did turn,
And I met my doom.
By a queen’s cruel blade,
In revenge for her child,
With her lover as an aid,
Jealousy, never is mild.

The Great OutdoorsThe Great Outdoors

My father was a great enthusiast for the outdoors. I'm not. Nor is my mother or my brother Elton. Understand, we are not against the countryside per se. In fact we love the countryside. On a postcard preferably. Or a painting. Elton and I are city people. We like shopping malls and coffee houses. A tree is good. A forest is... well, it is possible to have too much of a good thing.

But our father insisted on having this cottage in the vicinity of Aarschot (It's a Belgian village, don't bother to look it up. In fact, you best forget I mentioned it, straight away. No, that's not fair. It's actually quite lovely.) So we went
MummyMummy

Do you know what a mummy is? Well, you probably have a mammy. The word may sound similar but there a world of difference between the two. Mammies are sweet. Mummies aren't. Mammies are soft. Mummies aren't, unless they've been put in some warm water for a while. Mammies can move. Mummies stay absolutely still, unless you hang them to dry by the fire.

A mummy resembles a Christmas present. That is, they are all wrapped up. But don't try to unwrap them. It makes a terrible mess and besides, they don't like it. And kids, neither will mammy (if you try this at home).

How does one make a mummy? First you need a pharaoh. That's not a cigar

The New Atheists 1 The Four HorsemenThe New Atheists 1 – The Four Horsemen

Atheism is probably of all times. We read, in the fifth century BC, about a certain Diagoras of Melos, reputedly the first professed atheist. Also Protagoras, in his book On the Gods, wrote: “Concerning the gods, I have no means of knowing whether they exist or not or of what sort they may be, because of the obscurity of the subject, and the brevity of human life." However he was probably more of an agnostic than an atheist.

Yet there always must have been people who, because of their philosophical persuasion, and more often because of the big question about human suffering, doubted the existence of a benevolent deity. Many of them viewed with scorn, or at least with cold indifference the beliefs of their fellow men, determined that they would not let there life be governed by the dictates of a non-existing god.

Then there have been atheistic governments. Lenin saw the intellectual, cultural and eve

Ten Nordic HeroesTen Nordic Heroes
Searching for gold in the Rhine
Fafnir got changed in a dragon
And then there were nine
Nine Nordic Heroes
Were divided by hate
Regin was killed by his brother
And then there were eight
Eight Nordic Heroes
Their fate was decided in heaven
Alberic became invisible
And then there were seven
Seven Nordic Heroes
Siefried was killed by devious tricks
Hunting boar in the woods
And then there were six
Six Nordic Heroes
In Xanten given over to strive
King Gunther got jealous
And then there were five
Five Nordic Heroes
Odin did love them no more
He banished Brunhilde
And then there were four
Four Nordic Heroes
Their doom, queen Ute did see
She pined away in sorrow
And then there were three
Three Nordic Heroes
Whom Kriemhilde did pursue
With all her revenge
And then there were two
Two Nordic Heroes
The tale is almost done
Hagen killed all the others
And then there was only one
One Nordic Hero
His castle is long gone
Etzel the Hun destroyed it
And now there are none
Riddle 1Never born, three times I lived upon the earth,
Never died, since long again I turned to dirt,
I ate all others of my kind,
I was the only, left behind.

She's gone ...
Sleeping her eternal sleep
Her spirit wandering
through the pastures
of that beautiful afterworld

She's gone ...
Having opened many hearts,
filling them with warmth
and compassion
Changing people's lives

She's gone ...
May your spirit be free
and at peace
in eternal happiness
Knowing you're in our hearts forever

She's gone ...

So now it's time for me to go ...

Ashamed? But you should never be ashamed of your work! First of all enjoyment of art is a highly personal thing and secondly creating art is already half the fun & joy :D And people should just be grateful you're willing to share your work.
Actually I like those prints and also the fact that you experiment with different materials

Though I like the variety of arty expressions on dA I'm mainly into photography (and I used to do some writing) so I'm contemplating - when I've some more spare time - maybe to join SmugMug [link]
